Winter at Kinnaird

Scone Palace by Candelight
1 December to 31 December
Join us for a weekend of candlelight, mulled wine and music in the palace. Scone is a place that breathes history like nowhere else in Scotland. Today, in the 21st century, it is the home of the Earls of Mansfield, and a major attraction to visitors from all over the world. Fifteen hundred years ago, it was the capital of the Pictish kingdom and the centre of the ancient Celtic church. In the intervening centuries, it has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of Kings. It has housed the Stone of Destiny and been immortalised in Shakespeare's Macbeth. Poised above the River Tay, the Palace overlooks the routes north to the Highlands and east through Strathmore to the coast. The Grampian mountains form a distant backdrop, and across the river stands the city of Perth. Two thousand years ago, the Romans camped here, at the very limit of their empire. They never defeated the warlike Picts, who later came to rule Scone, but the followers of St Columba had more success. By the early 7th century, a group of early Christians, the Culdees or servants of God, had established themselves here. The present Earl and Countess of Mansfield bid you welcome, and hope that one day soon you will visit in person www.scone-palace.co.uk.

Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre
Horsecross is a new(ish) organisation that's grown out of an old one - Perth Theatre. The theatre has been around for a hundred years. It has a wonderful, colourful past that is inextricably linked with Perthshire. As the Millennium approached. Perth's great and good came to a great and good decision. To build a great concert hall that would be as good as any other. The seeds were planted. Out of hallowed soil that had once cushioned the footsteps of passing monks, emerged Perth Concert Hall. We're here to provide for all the people of Perthshire and beyond, whether they're into Elgar or Elvis, Greek tragedy or stand-up comedy. So 'music' covers everything from classical concerts to rock, pop, world, traditional, country, jazz. 'Drama' covers classics, new writing, comedy, panto, children's shows. We like to mix it up. We have jamming sessions in the theatre bar, jazz in the studio theatre, lunchtime lights in the concert hall's studio. But we'll keep the full-on orchestras with 70 musicians and 2 pianos for the main auditorium at the concert hall. They wouldn't fit anywhere else... The Programme can be found at www.horsecross.co.uk.
