Relais & Châteaux

With two Innkeepers in Mrs. Constance Cluett Ward’s family; her great grandfather Myron Ticknor and grandfather Benjamin Ticknor, she experienced the traditions of old-fashioned hospitality first hand through the profession of two Hotel proprietors working at the turn of the last century. “Spending summers fishing, shooting and enjoying outdoor pursuits at the Berkshire Inn in the Virginia Mountains, and winters at the Court Inn in South Carolina - we were always a second home to our regular guests”.

Mrs. Cluett Ward travelled extensively throughout her life, as guest and host, in many parts of the world. She and her husband Reggie Ward would use the Relais & Châteaux Guide to source accommodation often on their journey down to their residency in St. Tropez, “The certainty of a welcoming atmosphere, and consistency in the quality in the hotels built our confidence in Relais & Châteaux”.

Kinnaird has been a member of the association since 1993. Many other ‘Innkeepers’ and Hoteliers were particularly helpful and extremely generous when introducing Mrs Constance Cluett Ward into the hospitality world. Now they are dear friends and she is eternally grateful them. To name a few, Paul Henderson formerly from Gidleigh Park, as well as long retired Peter Sneddles.

The house was turned into a hotel in memory and celebration of all the beautiful parties hosted at Kinnaird by the couple during their time together. “The greatest host I’ve ever known, and I will say that until the day I die, was Reggie Ward – generous, kind and forgiving....

Today Mrs. Cluett Ward continues the tradition of hosting guests at Kinnaird.
